Hiring through PEO

A professional employer organization (PEO) provides employment services, including human resource and payroll services.

  • Contracting with a PEO may be an option for hiring employees for a finite period in a particular country.
  • Under this option, the individuals are employed by the PEO as Employer of Record, while UCSF faculty or staff provide direct oversight and management of the employee.
  • Salary setting would be guided by UCSF policy, budget, and negotiation with the employee.
  • Benefits are guided by local labor law.
  • The PEO will also provide guidance on what benefits are common practice in the relevant country.

For current UCSF employees, this may mean a transfer of employment to the affiliate office.

  • At the time of transfer, the employee would no longer be eligible for applicable UCSF benefits, including retirement and leave.

Hiring through a PEO firm provides you with the broadest global reach as they typically have hiring ability worldwide.

  • The costs to contract with PEO firms will typically include a set-up fee and a monthly service fee.
  • The PEO firm may also charge other fees based on the assigned location
