Implementation of international research, training, and education activities
- In-country administrative and logistical support in UCSF’s seven foreign affiliate offices under Global Programs for Research and Training
- Guidance on approaches to in-country implementation, including budgeting and planning, partner engagement, local IRB approvals, data/sample collection and storage, and results dissemination
- Risk mitigation strategies when conducting activities in foreign settings with limited or ambiguous regulation
International hiring and contracting independent consultants
- Guidance on optimal approaches to hiring/contracting based on the scope of work and target country
- Compliance support with University, State/Federal, and Foreign Country labor rules and regulations
- Management of UCSF expatriate employee HR issues, including benefits and foreign tax liability management
International banking and procurement issues
- Facilitate the utilization of different platforms to pay foreign vendors in a timely, efficient manner
- Identify potential shipping and receiving challenges and mitigation strategies based on the type of supply/asset and target country
International asset management and disposal issues
- Advise on strategies for asset tagging and monitoring in international settings
- Guidance on planning for asset donation or disposal during the proposal and/or award signing stage
- Navigating asset disposal in a foreign country in compliance with UC and sponsor policies
International agreement development and support
- Identification of the optimal types of agreements needed to further international partner collaboration
- Advise on objectionable or incongruent contract language in international agreements and the risks associated with each
- Support and advising throughout the international agreement development and negotiation process.
International partnership development and faculty networking
- Support the tracking of international activities at UCSF and how that information is shared to foster growth of internal and external collaborations
- Facilitate partnership development in Global Programs countries and link potential collaborative opportunities with appropriate departments and faculty
- Assist in dissemination of research findings and results demonstrating impact
